Riverside Water Polo (RWP) Mission Statement:
RWP provides the most comprehensive water polo program in the Inland Empire. Our athletes develop the skills and experience for long-term success that is required to compete at a high level in high school and in college, through quality year-round coaching and competition. We develop our athletes’ swimming skills and fundamental water polo skills, while focusing on discipline, cooperation, responsibility, respect, commitment, composure and perseverance. We strive to help every individual athlete develop life skills that will greatly benefit themselves as well as their community.
Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to produce uncommon results.
RWP accepts new athletes throughout the year. We have two programs for the beginner athlete: Splash Ball (4-13 yrs) and Futures (13-16 yrs). Splash Ball focuses to help the new athlete by first becoming water-safe, then we begin training in 'free-style' swim and egg-beating. Introduction to balls and cages along with the proper technique to pass and shooting follows. Once the coaching staff feels they are ready for more of a challenge, we graduate them to the 'Futures' program. 1 hour practices - Tues/Thurs 4:30pm-5:30pm at RCC. Our Futures program focuses on the next phase of the sport. Fundamentals and advanced skills are taught and it is geared to prepare the athlete for the "Year-Round Program," should they be ready. 1.5 hour practices - Tues/Thurs 5:30pm-7:00pm at RCC.
Masters Program provides an opportunity for those who played when they were younger to relive their glory days, get in shape, have fun or for simple exercise. RWP is looking to expand their men's and women's program. Over the years we have been able to compete in Masters Nationals with our men's program. We would like to bring in a women's program this season! 1.5 hour practices - 2x a week 7:00pm-8:30pm at Riverside City College.
